Summer canvas bag

I’ve been wanting to make a partial circle bag for a while.

Since the weather is turning warmer, went with canvas and put the faux fur away.

Had plenty of green canvas left from the makeup bag so went with a matching bowler type of bag.

Materials:

  • green canvas
  • lightblue canvas
  • fox print
  • black faux leather

The plan:

Cut out a pattern from card stock.

It is about 10.2” tall.

Marked the line for the light blue pocket and handles.

Ended up not putting the handles there to allow a long cross body strap.

After cutting out all the pieces, started putting the zipper pieces together.

This took 3 trues to get right.   Need to sew the green outer pieces first.   Sew the zipper to the canvas.

Then sew the lining.   If adding the d-rings for the strap, add them here.

Had to rip open the seams to put in the D-rings.

Sewed the entire exterior then sewed the interior except for the base.

Need to add at least 1 interior pocket.

For the straps used  a padded interfacing to make it feel a bit more rounded.    Because the canvas is stiff and a lil rough the softness makes it easier to grasp.

Zo was a big fan.

She expected belly rubs.

She wanted to help sew.

Coco just wanted to lounge.

The base’s corners were not as sharp as they could have been.

Added an Eiffel Tower charm.

The straps were difficult to sew.    Folding over the ends of the straps resulted in 8 layers of canvas.    Ended up breaking 2 needles trying to sew through them.

Thought this would end up more rounded.   Next time maybe more of a circle pattern?
