Wooden handle clutch

Been wanting to use wooden handles for a while.  At first was thinking of just adding the circular handles on top of a tote.  But the handle purchased is about 7 inches in diameter.  And I’m short so the bag would end up pretty close to the ground in order to be big enough to hold everything needed.

So went with a clutch instead where the circle can be grasped or the hand can slip between the handle and the bag.

The plan:

Originally had only 2 straps attaching the handle but thought the weight of the handle would cause it to wobble from the bag.

The materials:

  • floral print denim
  • fox print cotton
  • silver faux leather
  • black zipper
  • wooden handle

Cut the zipper to 12 inches and added zip tabs.

Added straps to the ring.

Sewed straps to side of exterior.

Added a simple pocket to one of the lining pieces.

Added a zozofiona label.

Realized the zipper was cut way too long since the dimensions were supposed to be 9’ width by 12” height.

Cut the zipper down.

Sewed around the sides and left the bottom of the lining unsewn so it can be turned inside out.

Was a bit concerned it would be difficult to turn right side out because of the handle.  Kept the zipper open all the way and had to do some coaxing.

Added a key/ crown charm.

And some rivets to try to keep the handle from moving around too much.

Can slip your paw under the handle.

Zo is feeling smug about the label.

The underside of the denim is kinda pretty.

Zo looks like a fox.

The faux leather is fabulous but when sewing the right side, the teeth on the sewing machine tends to scratch it.  Can only sew it when the underside is hidden or when the wrong side is sewn/ material is flipped right side out.

Zo wonders when she will get a proper space queen outfit.

In conclusion not a fan of this bag.

It is smaller than preferred.  Barely fits the iPad mini and wallet and phone at the same time.   The handle is too thick?  Wide?  Maybe a thinner metal circle would work better?

The idea of this bag is far more interesting than the reality.  So def not giving this to anyone.
